It’s important that young people have the information and support they need to make informed choices about the way they live their lives.
While childhood cancer itself is not caused by lifestyle factors, CLIC Sargent is happy to support CoppaFeel!’s Rethink Cancer campaign because we believe it is important that young people know the risks, associated with activities like sunbed use, smoking and drinking alcohol; and that the choices they make as young people and young adults could affect their health and wellbeing as adults.
And it’s important too that the general awareness of cancer and its impact amongst young people is improved. CLIC Sargent recently developed the ‘Cancer and school life’ materials for schools where a child or young person has been diagnosed with cancer. Designed to help school staff communicate effectively with pupils, the materials explain the basics about cancer and treatment to help pupils to understand what their classmate is going through and how they can support them (see www.clicsargent.org.uk/forteachers for details)
